It all started with a prayer. “God, break my heart for what breaks yours.” Little did I know what the answer to that prayer would be. God started to show me that there was a battlefield raging right in my backyard. In Mexico, like any other town, there are people hurting, in poverty, and without Jesus in their life. We have a strong Christian presence in our town, with lots of church communities and many wonderful things being done. But what if…what if we looked at the church as Paul did? (Romans 14:19, Hebrews 3:13) What if we had so much more to give when we work together?
In response, Uplift Mid-MO was created to help Christians in our community collaborate. I couldn’t have imagined what God had in store for this (I still can’t totally wrap my mind around it). What started as a facebook group in May 2019, which brought in over 200 individuals from 14+ area churches. With that kind of community, I began to realize we could be very effective if we utilized the gifts and resources that God gave to all of us. Another important aspect of our mission is to not only point people to Jesus, but to encourage believers to find a church home. We hope for our clients that come to Jesus to find a bible-believing church community to help them through their walk.
God continues to shape and shift this organization each day, and many wonderful individuals continue to be in prayer about its direction. We are currently doing research to determine the exact need for Mexico. In September 2019, we formally assembled our Board and we will continue to have further conversations about how we can best serve the area. We are looking forward to what God has in store for Uplift Mid-MO!
